There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den wagering is illegal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of most borders.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that contains many conveniences on top of the gambling hall, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
